Associate – Research 3
College of Engineering – Center for Geoinformatics
Louisiana State University
The Center for GeoInformatics (C4G) at Louisiana State University (LSU) is seeking entry-level land surveying personnel in support of geodetic research in Louisiana and the Northern Gulf of Mexico. The position will act as Surveying Field Support Personnel and will work with a Professional Land Surveyor and should have knowledge and skills related to Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) field surveys and computations using Global Navigational Satellite Systems (GNSS) technology. The successful candidate will apply these technologies to measure point locations and elevations, establish positional benchmarks, and assess the precision and accuracy of such measurements under a variety of challenging environmental conditions. Appointment to this full-time position is grant-funded for a minimum of five (5) years.
Nature of Work:
This position involves the execution of field surveys in support of research activities conducted by the LSU Center for GeoInformatics. Tasks include establishing accurate and precise horizontal and vertical control at select locations across the state. Surveys will be conducted using GNSS technologies, geodetic leveling, total station, absolute and relative terrestrial gravity measurements at Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS), National Spatial Reference System benchmarks and Louisiana Spatial Reference Center (LSRC) eccentric benchmarks to improve geodetic modeling of future datums and NSRS Modernization. Vertical deflection measurements will be performed using a High-Precision Digital Zenith Camera System. Benchmarks and gravity marks will be installed as needed. Additional tasks include research and analysis appropriate for developing quality assessment and quality control (QA/QC) applications for the surveys. Training will be provided on operation of all equipment.
