The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Department is seeking a Survey Technician that will: • Receive survey, drafting and computational request, conduct related research, and collect information including plats, deeds, and plans necessary to perform field survey work and drafting to meet deadlines. • Conduct research and collect information for use by other City agencies and general public. • Review data turned in from field surveys and drafting to insure accuracy and adequacy for recordation. • Perform advanced calculations for traverse closures, adjustments, boundary information, construction alignment and grades, acreage, and right-of-way and easement acquisition to insure the complete and accurate preparation of all engineering drawings. • Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.
Requires high school or GED plus six (6) years experience in surveys or a related field which utilizes the required knowledge, skills and abilities, and associated with such positions as Engineering Technician or Survey Party Supervisor; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. This position may require that incumbents to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, or other safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employees supervisor based on position assigned.
